Venturing
in VoIP
The Caltech-MIT Enterprise Forum presents a program on venturing
in Voice over Internet protocol, or VoIP. The program features
a keynote address on VoIP from Jeff Pulver, President and
CEO of pulver.com. Mr. Pulver is one of the true pioneers
of the Internet telephony/VoIP industry, and pulver.com was
the recent recipient of a favorable landmark Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) decision declaring Free World Dialup as an
unregulated information service. This landmark decision by
the FCC is the first and only decision it has made on IP communications
to date, now referred to as "the Pulver decision."
Our program will explore the technology behind VoIP, explore
the public policy arena, both nationally and internationally,
and discuss the Pulver decision, and the FCC's signaling that
it is not interested in over-regulating VoIP, thus making
it a prime opportunity for entrepreneurial activity. We will
also hear from a strong panel representing other companies
venturing in VoIP, and will learn some do's and don'ts from
experienced entrepreneurs.
