Two Views of Technology Entrepreneurship: Do Investors Think the Same as Entrepreneurs? Saturday, October 21, 2006 William H. Davidow may have seen it all, at least when it comes to the business of doing technology. William Davidow is Founder and General Partner in Mohr-Davidow Ventures, an early stage venture firm with a twenty year record of success. With a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, management positions at General Electric, Hewlett-Packard, and Intel, this veteran marketeer has acheived a legendary status as a venture capitalist and corporate visionary, which he brings to his role as a Caltech Trustee. As the Caltech/MIT Enterprise Forum kicks off its 2006-2007, Bill Davidow is going to give us his view of what it takes to succeed as a technology entrepreneur in 2006. How do current venture capitalists look at today's technology ventures? How does he think they should? How do you distinguish between basic research and building a company to develop a real product? Along the way, he'll tell us about the practical lessons he learned from the arc of his distinguished career. Right after Dr. Davidow's talk, we'll convene a panel discussion, bringing together two additional venture capitalists -- who have somewhat different focuses and attitudes -- with two seasoned entrepreneurs, one from the computer and the electronics sector and the other from the life sciences sector and see what they have to say to one another. What does a venture capitalist want to hear from an entrepreneur and confirm before writing a check? What do the entrepreneurs think could or should have been done better in their previous venture? Is there really such a thing as a "serial entrepreneur" or is the person with a progression of successful ventures simply an anomaly? Indeed, are technology entrepreneurs born or are they made? We'll leave ample time before the end of the program for the audience to interact with Dr. Davidow and the panel. What do you want to know before you take the plunge into technology entrepreneurship? Keynote Speaker William H. Davidow, Ph.D. Panelists: Venture Capitalists Dr. Claas Heise Entrepreneurs
