When it comes to energy, California is playing a different game and it shows. From 2006 to 2008, California attracted $3 of every $5 invested in U.S. clean tech — five times as much as the No. 2 state. California has been preparing for its clean-energy future for a long time. Today, the state is proactively enacting groundbreaking efficiency standards for buildings, appliances and pool heaters.
California is also leading the way toward electric cars, zero-emission homes, advanced biofuels and a smarter grid. It has even launched a belated battle against car-dependent sprawl, with unprecedented rules forcing communities to consider carbon emissions in their land-use plans. Recently, California created the nation's first energy-efficiency standard for television sets, as part of California's campaign to reduce energy waste and cut emissions from power plants.
This public-sector foresight creates alluring opportunities for the private sector entrepreneur. For financing, venture capitalists are a traditional source of fundings but there are other opportunities for financing that can get your ideas and company moving forward.
Join us on January 9th, 2010, when our program will focus on the business and financing opportunities in the clean technology sector, and will also highlight ways you can sell your alternative energy to customers such as utility companies.
In an effort to give everyone an opportunity to pose questions during the Forum’s Q&A session, you can submit your questions here and the panelists will answer these selectively during the forum: http://www.cleangreenguy.com/thought-leadership/events-forums-and-mixers/caltechmit-enterprise-forum-event-cleantech-and-money-en.
Note: The Forum will be hosting a second program about financing entrepreneurial opportunities within GreenTech in May 2010.
