What is convergence? It’s the hottest thing around. It embraces telephony,
video, text and data transmission, music, video player, e-mail, wireless
internet access, traditional PDA, GPS and associated functionality, paging,
office software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook), digital voice
and video recorder, laser pointer, text scanning and OCR functions, and
other innovations that even Steve Jobs has not conceived!
What are the hot areas in this field? What does the future hold? What
are the near term commercial successes likely to be? What technologies
must be developed to fully realize the potential of convergence into a
single hand-held device? What are the opportunities for entrepreneurs?
What roles will the large telecommunications and entertainment companies
play? What roles will the large producers of consumer electronics and
computer, as well as, content developers play? How should entrepreneurs
work with the larger companies? What are the riskiest areas in this field
for entrepreneurs? Where are angel investors and venture capital firms
investing their money? How have the public markets received companies
focusing on convergence?
The field is open to resourceful entrepreneurs, and to scientists who
build the right team to manage and commercialize this technology.
Our May 13, 2006, Caltech MIT Enterprise Forum program will explore the
fast-moving world of opportunity for entrepreneurs and middle market companies.
Program
Donald Jones, VP Business Development, Qualcomm Inc. Qualcomm
embodies the story of entrepreneurial success. Now Qualcomm is a large
company with deep interest in convergence. Qualcomm relies on partnering
and collaborating with entrepreneurs. What are the areas of greatest interest
to Qualcomm? How can enterpreneurs benefit from collaborations or deals
with Qualcomm and other large companies?
Tom Munro, Chief Executive Officer, Veramatrix Inc. Tom
Munro has over 22 years of experience in both finance and technology and
a global leader in the design, deployment, and management of wireless
mobility and broadband wireless networks.
John W. Stossel, CEO, EasyReach Corporation. EasyReach
is led by industry veteran John W. Stossel. Founded in 2005, EasyReach
is a privately funded company headquartered in Campbell, California and
addresses relevant information keyword search.
Stealing digital content has become commonplace. Some estimate that fifty
percent of satellite service is stolen, one third of cable service is
stolen and over one third of Internet bit traffic is stolen video content.
In order to expand content distribution on the Internet, digital content
must be protected. Verimatrix is dedicated to the protection of digital
creations and securing operator's revenue streams. Verimatrix can easily
deploy it technology and trace piracy to its source.
Verimatrix epitomizes the successful enterpreneur recognizing the
market opportunity, developing the product, and partnering with larger
companies to deploy its technology. Mr. Munro will describe how Verimatrix
is making a difference in the digital convergence revolution.
Dont miss this timely and informative meeting.
